I saw this movie last night. It was ok, not very good but no the worst thing I've ever seen. But, what is most incredible about it is the fact that it makes you examine childhood. I really enjoyed getting to see what my childhood was like, the way my emotions worked, the way my thoughts worked, the way my mind worked. It brought me to a point that is backed by Paul in 1st Corinthians 13:11 where he says "When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways." There is a reason for growing up and not staying a child... really there are several reasons. When you watch this movie, you realize how childish all of the characters are, how they don't ever put thought into anything, how they don't see any other reason behind life than to throw dirt at each other. These characters remained kids, their society did not work because they understood where to go next. On top of that, they never had to worry about things like finding food or understanding their purpose(s) in life. Yes, this is a movie, but it does go to show us a great number of things. When we are kids, we think irrationally, selfishly and idiotically. But, when we mature into adults (and I mean adults in maturity and understanding, not in age), we find much better things in life. We find love, we find passions, we find subtlety, we find a reason behind our lives besides throwing dirt and getting angry.
We need to stop reaching for things that let us feel like kids again, in order to "re-live a former life." We need to embrace maturity and we need to continue to grow. The age of adolescence is growing; what use to be 18 is now early 30's. That is sad to me. A generation that is striving to be children... and I am one of them. I participate in watching television from my past (Batman), watching movies about my favorite books from when I was in first grade. Jared, get away from this. Grab a hold of your life and push past all of this....
